G'day guys The problem I am now getting is that I have no power going to the switch that plugs into the clutch lever I have traced the wire back to the diode that is under the seat.is there supposed to be power at that diode and would no power going to the clutch lever switch stop the starter button from working. The bike runs but I have to start it by jumping the solenoid.i have power everywhere else but nothing to do with the starter.i have rebuilt this bike from a box load of parts and a rolling frame but I just can't get the starter to work
Any help would be much appreciated

I do not thing that clutch switch has any thing to do with the starting circuit. Does your engine cut out switch kills the engine when running. try bypassing the starter relay.. it is the one next to the starter solenoid.. - jump the black and black/white wire a then try the starter switch.

Sammy is correct. The clutch switch does not effect the starter circuit. you need to be looking at the two starter solenoids (one small round one and one on starter), starter switch, and ignition switch.
If your bike runs when jumped then your clutch switch is not where you need to looking.
FYI The three wires coming from that diode are looking for a ground. They are for the three safety switches (clutch, kickstand, and neutral.) When one of these goes to ground then the ignition module will allow spark to happen. The bike can be cranked over but if you are not getting spark then these safety switches are a possible culprit. Yours runs so ignore these for now.

I just tried jumping the wires that you told me to try spammy and the starter button works now does that mean I need to replace the solenoid. Don't know if the bike starts cause I have the tank off at the moment I also noticed that the starter solenoid got hot around the battery wires is this normal
Thanks again for your help sorry to be a pain

you can replace it or delete the starter relay.. It seem that the starter relays are hard to come by.. if you leave the jumper it would work fine but will take out the neutral switch and starter lock out switch out of the loop. as for the wires getting hot .. it will get hot if you crank on the starter for prolong periods or if you have a poor/dirty connection on that circuit..
Glad to hear you are back on line..
