Hi all, so I have got my 454 started. Kept the same plugs, charged my battery, changed oil and a splash of fuel in the tank and it started without much fuss after sitting since 1999. I left the bike for the last two weeks and went to start it today to start checking out the gears and clutch etc and seeing if anything was seized etc, but the battery was flat. I got a reading of 0.14 on a multimeter and I am quite puzzled as to why this is the case. The battery was brand new, bought dry and filled by myself and charged fully and worked absolutely fine. The bike ran for a good 20 minutes on the first run and another 5 minutes on the second. After which as said, I left it for two weeks up until today. I got absolutely no juice in it at all. I've thought of possible issues but I am a little unsure as to what it could be. Does the 454 have a park position on the ignition and could this be the case that I have unknowingly left it in park and it's slowly drained the battery? If so, can you tell me what position is park on the ignition please. If not, any light you can shed on this problem would be greatly appreciated. I have documented my endeavours so far on my Youtube channel, feel free to stop by and have a look. www.youtube.com/channel/UCrMl7aIPGBp8LV8k3C8Kx7wMany thanks in advance SFT

If you turn the key too far it does have a position that will leave the lights on. I've done this too :-(

I've done this too :-( I certainly didn't leave any lights on as it was dark in the garage once we'd finally finished working on the bike. I or my partner in crime would've noticed, beit a small parking light or anything. What I am concerned about is that I left the ignition in the 'park' position, I wasn't even aware this bike had that feature. It's a 1985 from the U.S. and I would appreciate if anyone can confirm this model has that feature.

Check the positions on ur key switch. If you have another "click" to the left of fork lock on ur key switch, that is the "park" & will kill the battery.

So which is it, left or right? It's a US '85 and I really would like to know which it is so I can avoid this in the future.

I promise you, both my bike and it's twin are to the RIGHT of run.... Push the key down and turn it right to activate park mode. They are an 85 and an 86. Look on your ignition to the right past Run. If there is a "P", that's park mode. Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S3 using the ProBoards Mobile App

Difference in Canadian models maybe,Or a change in 87 as the air shocks & self canceling signals?? At any rate if it's to the right of run than you wouldn't hit it accidentally turning the key off.

Ok, so I guess they don't have an accessory position, but everything else I remembered. 1986 Model.

Ok, so I guess they don't have an accessory position, but everything else I remembered. 1986 Model. Thanks for the diagram, my model has that but you really can't see it anymore. It doesn't have the black background the same in your picture. Today I went back to the garage and double checked that it was definately left in the 'Off' position, so I figure I must have some issues in the loom or relay. Thanks for all your help, this can be locked now.
