Had anyone ever put on different carbs before? I've never liked slides, and I'm wondering if I couldn't find some old butterfly style carbs. What exactly do you look for in different carbs? Diameter of the ports to match, and distance between the two?

I suppose in theory you could use any carb that fits, as long as you can get the right balance of air to fuel mix into the engine. Purpose of carbs is simply to mix fuel and air and deliver to the engine so i dont see why not.
i just ran out to the garage cause i have my carbs off they have butterfly style valves so idk what you have.

Yea we have a butterfly/slide combo. I'm looking for something similar that I had on my xs 850, they were purely butterfly. Simple to work on and never had problems.

Sent from my PantechP8010 using proboards Sorry guys. Our bikes do NOT have butterfly carbs. Our carbs have vacuum operated slides. Big difference. With butterfly carbs, you can twist the throttle even when the bike is not running, and a tiny bit of fuel will be delivered, and the butterflies will move. Vacuum carbs like ours don't work like this. Fuel can/will only be delivered if the bike is running/cranking (as long as the engine is producing vacuum). Simply turning the throttle with the bike off will NOT make the slides move on our carbs. Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S3 using the ProBoards Mobile App
