Hi guys, Not sure where to post this so if it's in the wrong place could a mod pls move it for me ta Ok so our '86 LTD has started to have a few problems and before we go tinkering around blind I am hoping you guys could point me in the right direction. ok so the symptoms riding along and then the rev counter starts bouncing up and down even tho we are at constant speed, you can hear fluctuations in the engine sound at the same time. lack of power on pull away, but once she gets going not so bad when slowing using engine braking left exhaust pops, just the once, slowing using the brakes more it doesn't happen. If i remember right popping on deceleration is cos it's leaner than the engine would like, cos throttle is off/lower than the engine would like for the speed its doing, lack of power on the pull away again maybe the fuel mixture not right, but the fluctuating rev counter i have no idea never known of that to happen (all my knowledge comes from paying attention to the ex fixing cars and bikes) looking forward to any advice you can give me thanks guys

The first thing is to do a good valve adjustment, then we will go from there. There are all kinds of good instructions on how to do that in several posts here on the forum.

Well hubby mentioned it to a mechanic and he told us to check the clutch cable, baffles us as to why that would have changed so much over the 2 weeks she was parked up waiting for a part to arrive, but we had a tinker with it and bam she is back to normal with all her power she usually has, and no more fluctuating rev counter.
Checking the valves is still something we are gonna have a look at just to make sure they are good.
