I Know this sounds really stupid, but I only had one key for my bike (1989 454 LTD), and it was on my key ring. Well I lost my entire key ring, losing my house key, and car keys. After hot-wiring my car to get home, then paying $120 for a new Volvo key to be cut and programmed, I realized I now don't have a key to my bike! I thought I could just get a new ignition, but realized I have 4 locks total.. (the ignition, helmet lock, back door, and most importantly the gas tank!) Even if I made it a push-button ignition I'd only get one ride with the gas tank! I'm not sure what I should do... Please anyone let me know your ideas. I'm not sure if I'll be able to sign back into this forum, so if I don't respond please e-mail me! Spencerbarnes6.sb@gmail.com Maybe everyone here has an entire key set or something? I went to the lock Kawasaki dealership, and they said they MIGHT be able to order a new ignition, but it'd be hard to find because it's so old. I don't really believe them, and am hoping maybe a locksmith could help me or something? Or someone on here would have a whole key set. Thanks guys! Great forum you guys have here!
Thanks, Spencer!

I've had something similar happen.
I took out the ignition cylinder and brought it to a locksmith to get re-keyed. Grab your phone book and call a few local locksmiths, find one that will give you a reasonable price to do a re-key if you bring in the ignition cylinder. ($40 at Vigil's in Albuquerque) If you have a friend with a motorcycle, especially a Kawasaki, see if their tank key will open up your gas tank, and if you find a key that fits, make a copy. This is also an option for your ignition...but the tank will be much easier to find a match. (Don't force anything, you don't want an old key breaking off in the lock) If you can't find a key to match the tank then you can probably push out the pin on the hinge and bring the cap in to be re-keyed too. If you have to do this then you can have them make a key to fit both, and ask for a spare set.
The problem I had was that my key will slip out of the ignition in the on position. It still does this, and can get bumped out on a ride. I attached a short latch to the handlebars that I attach to the key before I go so that it isn't lost if this happens again. You may also want a pocket chain.
