ill admit im a little worried about posting this here do to the fact that not many on this site seem to get to wild with their 454's but i however sorta am... im wondering who has had luck with thinning out the wiring harness on their bike, what circuits you removed and how they went about utilizing the factory harness after so. Im considering removing everything but the bare essentials on this build. The circuits i need on the bike would be; head light run/tail light (brake) ignition on-off/ign kill/starter altenator
indicator lights id like to keep would be; N "on" and a warning indicator, either oil or temp
I oviously need to seperate out the circuit for the ele fan too...
Ive thought a universal chopper harness would work but if i can utilize the factory harness i would ya know. Plus after eliminating wires i also plan on doing a full wire tuck. Theres just a few boxes/relays, etc im not sure of...
with my gauges ive thought about simply keeping the factory pair but removing the dash and cleaning up the mess in the headlight housing too, also have been looking into a dual head lamp assembly.
sorry if this is alot in the first post on this new thread, just ideas i have had in my mind this week for my bike.
thanks ahead of time!

I am not really good on wiring, but will tell you from experience, that the wiring system on this bike is pretty complicated, in that several items are sorta wired together, and it is pretty difficult to separate the wiring into individual parts. Some that are really almost electrical engineers, have re-wired the bike, when "chopping it down", and not using turn signals, and some other things. I messed up a wiring harness trying this, with a result of having to buy a new "used" harness......I will not try that again....I leave the wiring harness alone. except for rewiring an alarm system, remote start into the bike.

Eagle, was the stopping point for you after the new replacement harness showed up? or did you finish a harness for that bike?
ive also that the components in the system are some what piggy backed as almost like a circuit continuer onto the next location so to say...ive really own found one universal motorcycle harness on ebay and from what i could tell that harness was almost to simple lol
i would consider just rolling up the unused connectors and zip tieing them off to the side out of the way but it would drive me nuts to know things were just bunched up ya know...
who else has thought of this and circuits would you consider keeping and/or removing?

I got another 454 wiring harness, and left it alone, except for inserting/splicing in the alarm/remote starter.

So did you end up pulling it off?
I am actually an electrician, recently scored a en450 that was turned bobber/rat bike that has a few problems with the wiring. So I'm curious as to what you might have learned hands-on, before I tear into it. I've been through the electrical schematics and don't look too bad.

Not being good with wiring, I left things alone. There were/are some members that "custom wired" their customized bikes, but I have no idea how they did it. The problem is the (to me, at least) seems to be the electronic ignition, the firing of the bike (I assume all tied in with the ignition stuff) and the handlebar controls, which in the case of the headlight switch, are not simple on/off switches...it has other electrical stuff that is part of the switch. I know GWK "custom wired" his bike KIT, and you might contact bwhittet...He has totally changed his bike from the ground up.
