I need help bypassing the ignition switch. I have verified that when the switch is in the start position the yellow wire has no voltage. The switch is still powering everything while in the run position. I thought I could do this on my own by jumping the spare wire in the headlight that gets power when in the run position to the yellow wire, but I didn't take into account that it doesn't go straight to the starter relay, it splits off and goes a bunch of different ways. The best I can come up with is put my jumper back on so the yellow ignition wire has voltage when in the run position, the run a new wire jumping off the red wire at the starter button and going straight to the starter relay. Any thoughts? A little history... I bought my 454 for $100 no keys but i have the title. It has been in at least 3 Different Peoples Hands Who Have All Planned On Restoring It But Never Got Around To it. Engine was locked up but I've freed it up with some of the mystery oil. I got this ignition switch off ebay that came with the keys and gas cap. It also didn't have any carbs when I got it. Ebay as well. I'm new to motorcycles but good w cars so go fairly easy on me. Thanks.

Thanks. So the yellow wire can receive constant 12 v then... I'm gonna give it go. Does any auto parts store carry a 2 way keyed switch?

Someone please link me to a switch that will fit out bike without looking like crap. I hate the idea of using aftermarket. I'm considering a toggle switch, but I also don't understand why I can't just splice into a wire on the run side of the ignition. Any thoughts?

When you "wired in" the new switch, did you ask for and receive the wiring "mod" that must be done, in order for the on/off switch to work??

I did. Problem was the yellow wire on the bike side of the harness was pulled out and I didn't know at the time. 2 switches and figuring that out later.. tonight she is alive!.. at least the starter is getting voltage from the bush button. Still no spark. I also had to bypass the starter circuit relay as described by another user somewhere else in here.

On another note, my coils are getting a constant 10.5V is this normal? If so, why don't I have spark?

Just to be thorough, while testing for spark the battery started to die. That may be why I only have 10.5
