Rode my 85 454 today. After about 60 miles, pulled to a stop sign. Went through it and went to shift to 2nd and the pedal wasn't there!! The rod that attaches that shift pedal to the tranny broke in two. Its the one that's threaded on both ends. Needless to say, I drove the bike home which was 17 miles in 1st gear at 10 mph. Took me 90 minutes!! Sucked!! Just ordered a new rod but how do I adjust it and set it? Do I have to take the ends off or at least on one side to put that rod back in. It was broke so I just broke loose the nuts on each end and unscrewed each broke piece.

Cool. Thanks. One more thing. I pulled over at a friends house on my 10 mph ride home and we took some channel locks, pulled the clutch in, and tried to get it to go to 2nd or 3rd gear so it would speed up my ride home a little. Could not do it!! Went from 1st to neutral and back to 1st but we couldn't get it to go to 2nd. Is that normal sitting still or should u be able to go through all gears? I'm wondering if that's what caused the rod to break in the first place?? Not sure.

Apparently some people can't seem to find neutral... . If the bike had been moving a bit, it would have went into second gear. It's a feature I both love and hate. And also a bonus feature of ENF is the fact that it's just about impossible to go from 1st to neutral once rolling. On my other bikes, I hate taking off from a light, and hitting neutral instead of 2nd... !#/&$! Never have done it on the 454 though. Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S3 using the ProBoards Mobile App
