Hey guys! I bought my first bike, a 1986 454 ltd, over the summer and so far it has been pretty great, smooth ride, nice acceleration, everything you would want in a first bike I'd say. Here is a picture of her scontent-b-lga.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpa1/v/t1.0-9/10544371_10152372346051843_5154647066065681593_n.jpg?oh=d6067d91c0df66746a33a0939a7b87ea&oe=54C38D9E..I can't figure out how to insert the picture directly but the link should work. So, I'm looking for a new set of pipes that will deliver a nice deep rumbling sound. I have been looking into the Emgo 12'' shorty mufflers because I like the look, the minimalistic look. I am looking for ones that won't require a lot of messing with the carbs, and something you can hear me coming down the road with. I'd like to paint them black but that's not too big of a deal. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Cheers! -Eric

A lot of us had great luck with H-D mufflers.A nice deep rumble at idle & not too loud on the road.

Could I get a link for that? Thanks man! Just check thru "mods" & the photo gallery. You will see that they look great & are easy to install. The longer the H.D. mufflers the deeper the sound at idle.

You can get a fairly low rumble at idle, but due to the design of this high revving engine, the rumble under acceleration and power tends to get a higher pitch in sound.

Click the lil picture looking icon to embed photos to the right of the envelope arrow icon. When making a post... watch out for the Http already in it when dropping a link.
My cocktail shakers produce a nice sound, loud enough to get the downtown cops lining up blocks away, and other riders wondering what the heck is that and start heading toward the sound. When they all hear the rev's pinging higher than "normal" leaving out. Learned the speed lesson the easy way. Got pulled for 60 in a 35 Officer said he rode guess he figured a lil ol 454cc couldn't hit 60 in 4 seconds started watching my speed cause I guess I didn't believe it either. A month or two later, I floated a valve, a guy in a silver car was out asking if I needed help before I could get the oil coated kick stand down on the second flick, the Porky Pig guys trying to follow, didn't even turn heads as they came through the light they got caught at.
Might put the stocks back on it to fly under all the radars.

When I bought my 87 454 last year it had what looked like after market mufflers but they were actually straight pipes that acted like megaphones. Crazy loud! I swapped them out for a pair of stock mufflers from eBay and drilled 3 - 7/8 inch holes in each rear baffle. Now the bike has a nice deep rumble and I don't pi.. off the neighbors.
