I am buying a 1986 454 ltd from one on the people in my class and i started to pay for it and i get it when i am done.
but as i was sitting on it and toying not running around i put my foot on the gear selection arm and pushed it down and rotated until the foot peg was down pointing at the floor floor it wasn't just the arm it took the shaft with it. I didn't push hard on it i just followed it expecting it to bottom out but it didn't. Then few days later my classmate told me it wasnt changing gears. did i cause any major damage pushing it down that far?

There's plenty folk here way more experienced than me with the gear shift assembly but looking at it I'd check bolts 92002 and 132/132A. Even if they were loose I'm not sure the splines would allow easy movement unless they are somehow worn down and no, you shouldn't have been able to cause any damage with a toe press. Details aside, I wouldn't be making downpayments on a bike someone else was still riding and I'm curious about the few days later part. Your post seems to suggest the shift lever was left pointing down 90 deg to the floor which renders the bike immediately out of action. What happened between the lever moving down and a few days later?
