My 85 454 LTD starter kicks out a lot, right before it starts. Is this a common problem? The starter was rebuilt by the previous owner, but he said it did it on him too. It acts like the old Chevy starters, when the Bendix or drive went out. It spins, but you have to let up on it a couple of times, for the gear to catch to make it crank. Thanks

Thanks That is the starter clutch getting weak.It is behind the stator. You need a 18 x 1.5 puller to remove the flywheel. If you try to remove it without the puller you will damage it.The starter clutch needs to be checked for cracks if alright you can buy new rollers & springs to rebuild it.Vulcan & Ninja 500 are the same.

Thank you for the info. Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I'm going to check all the parts you told me to.
