I am new to this forum and need some help getting my 1986 LTD 454 running. I am having a hard time getting my bike to start and not sure how to test the igniter and coils and whatever else I should be looking for. I could really use some input on what I should be trying and looking for.

Do you have spark at the spark plugs? When (if you know) were the valves adjusted last (valves tend to tighten up, causing hard to start)?

What's the best way to test for spark?

A couple of ways....Pull both plug wires off the plugs (so the engine wont start) stick a screwdriver into the end of the plug wire, hold the screwdriver (hold the screwdriver by the handle, so you don't get shocked), and hold the metal part of the screwdriver close to the engine..try to start the bike.you should see the spark arc across from the screwdriver to the engine.....that will let you know if you have spark there. Or, you can pull the spark plug, lay it on the engine so it has a ground, with the plug wire attached, and hit the starter button...you should see the plug arcing.
