Hey guys this is my first post ... Ok I just picked up a 86ltd I had her running great right before it took a crap on me.... I had the seat off and was charging the battery... The guy I bought it from had no clue and was a hack... There was a darn bare wire that I didn't see coming out or the starter relay by the scilinoid it's the one that has two wires that join to one out of the top of the connector ... Anyways that wire arced when it was running when I went to pull the charger off and the bike just shut down... Now i have no spark ... I checked all the connections and all the fuses .. Could i have blown the igniter ... And how do you check it I don't want to buy one unless that's it thanks guys for all your help in advance

I found out recently there is no way to test the igniter ? however there are some things you can do to narrow it down. First the that bare wire so it didn't happen again. Second check the 30 amp fuse that is inline (on the White wire coming from the positive battery terminal to the regulator) this can be easily missed because you can still get starter noise but will get no spark. If that's not it take a multimeter and check the ignition coils where the wires come from the igniter while trying to start. If all that is not the issue it may well be the igniter. I had to replace mine

I checked the fuses.. And couldn't take it any more I went down to the salvage shop and picked up A new igniter ..100$ and back in business .i taped all the wires before I put. It back together... Victory.! 10 miles around the neighborhood ran like a champ. Thanks
