I bought this bike off a guy and he was a 3rd party owner... His name was not on the title... he never registered the bike in his name. I screwed myself and didnt check the dmv website for back charges on the registration fees. there like 500 $ which is crazy because the bike hasnt been on the road in like 6 years. and thats more than i paid for the bike. So it kinda makes no sense why I should have to pay for the previous owners lack of responsibility. I live in California so that could be why this whole mess.... the bike hasn't been registered since April/2009 should I go down to AAA and see if they can wave some of the fees.. . I mean 500-600 bucks for a Motorcycle... Should i whine and cry about it? or should i do a lien on the bike? or should I say lost title.. try to turn in the plates and request new ones. .. California has crappy laws. there is a place on the CA dmv website that says they wont keep records longer than 4 years for back registration but i checked on the website and its there.... any thoughts guys thanks

It goes off vin number. Someone from NY, if i remember right, bought a scrapped bike with a salvageable frame and swapped it all over. If you say the paperwork and title is lost, you're going to have to go through vin inspection is my guess. The fees will carry regardless, unless you hange the fram and vin. I bought mine in the same manner, but luckily the old man I got it from put it as a non op before storing it for 20 years.

I hate GOVT.... screws you every time... they might as well call it BENDOVER DEPT. I tried to explain to the manager and person that was helping me register this thing very politely my situation and all I get is attitude. and a explanation on how they don't make policy... my reply well who does.? I dont remember seeing anything like that on my last ballot, if you work for the govt you work for the people. I think thats where I totally lost them. ok thats my rant.

I actually looked into a 454 for sale here in California where the owner had rebuilt the carbs and they started leaking bad, so he lost interest. It was for sale about 6 months ago that was for sale for $500, but the issue was the bike had $700 and some change owed through DMV. After I found that out, i passed on it though. I did look into registering the bike out of state, and then bringing it back in, but it seemed like a bit of a hassle. However since you own the bike now, you may want to consider it.

That sounds about right. Did you get the carbs to stop leaking gas? And was there an issue with the back rest as well? I suggest you look into registering the bike out of state and see if you can then bring it back in a year or so with the out of state title and registration. That was the path I was looking in to when i was considering that particular bike. California DMV is ruthless when it comes to their fees, no breaks, and no mercy. Another path to consider is finding another 454 in Cali that has recently been wrecked or is in non op that you can purchase for a few bucks with a newer registration, and just use that registration and plates for your running bike. may want to check with some bike salvage yards etc. (may be a little on the grey side of legal, but we are just talking about a piece of paper that says you can legally ride your motorcycle in the state.)

Along those lines......find a titled frame, and swap everything over to it.......now if you were close to me, I could fix you up!!!

That sounds like it's going to be a nice ride bro. I think i will need to put in a few 100+ mile runs on this bike before i go for a ride like that one.
