Hello everybody and thank you in advance for any advise you give. I had to replace the bearing on the transmission's output shaft. After putting everything back together, I have a new issue, my bike won't start. I dropped the battery in and hooked up the cables. When I tried to start it, the black/yellow ground wire that goes straight to the frame melted. Also, the engine isn't trying to turn. The starter IS turning the chain (I have the cover off to double check) but that's it. The cylinders are not pumping. Any idea on how to fix it? It's been 3 weeks and I'm going through redraws.

If the starter chain is turning, you are hearing a "ratcheting" noise...that is the starter clutch, which is bolted to the back of the flywheel....a "common" problem with these engines. The flywheel will need to be removed to examine the started clutch an repair/replace it.

I have a 1986 454 LTD that has been in storeage for almost 20 years, I am trying to revive this bike, I have checked electrical connections and have continuity to almost every connector in the harness. I have found some oxidation and have replaced the starter solenoid, believe that I may have received the wrong starter relay. I have no lights, I have manually and using a bypass switch do get the engine to crank over but not with the starter switch. Doe anyone have any ideas as what I should be looking for?
