Do you get panel lights or power elsewhere with the key turned? If so I'd work backwards from killswitch, start button and clutch switch. Unclip the wires where possible and use a meter to check the switches work OK, even if they seem fine make sure you test with the switches and wires moving around to all possible angles in case there is an intermittent fault that only appears with movement. Before putting the wires back you can attempt to start it with all switches bypassed e.g. killswitch and clutch switch temporarily wired shut then wire the start leads together and see if she starts.
Those handlebar wires and connections have probably not moved for twenty years so there's a good chance you've found or created a fault just by moving them. Should be an easy fix if its something like that though. Good luck!
