I have an 89 454ltd, i picked up a bike that someone had removed the signals on and im trying to replace them with LED signals. When i wire the lights up to the factory wiring they dont flash when the switch is on. they do come on but do not flash. The lights are a 2 wire instead of the factory 3 wire. I really dont care if i dont have the running lights up front as long as they flash when needed. I have a electronic flasher unit also to replace the factory one. Is it gonna be as simple as plugging the new flasher into the old wiring and hook the lights up to the factory wiring or do i need to try and rewire the whole setup?
I also read where the 89 bikes didnt have the auto canceling unit, but either someone replaced the whole panel under the seat with an older one with the auto cancel setup or snipped the wiring. Im pretty sure its the first set as i cant see any cut wiring or where it would of been.

You have the lights plugged into the running lights wires, most likely.

How does the auto cancelling unit Work ? It never worked on my bike - not even with the original lights.
"3-wire original lights" - is that a special US feature so you've got them working as running lights? 'Cause my originals (europe model) are only 2-wired.

Yes U.S. & Canadian bikes are 3 wire on the front (Running lights)..If you are using LED's you need to use a electronic flasher or resistors.......The LED's flash to fast & the resistors will slow them down so they flash normal.

The turn signal cancel system worked thru a combination of time and distance, using part of the speedometer, and time in the electronic module under the seat. The design seldom worked, that is why it was deleted on later models.

Well.. I guess that I don't have to waste my time trying to make it work then. 😏 I'm using filament bulb turn signals for the right old school look.
