Can someone help I have, I have an 86 454 ltd, was running good for a while but now it's hard to start and when I run it it will stall. It starts to back fire and then the engine cuts out like it's not getting any fuel. I have put a new fuel tap on still no luck.

Carburetor is dirty for sure. Especially if it started off out of the blue like that. Was it out in the rain at all? Every once in a while if i happen to leave it out for a long rain it will gum up the needles or cause the floats to stick a bit and cause idling issues, either too high or too low plus the air/fuel mixture is all over the place. I would drain the bowls (at the bottom of the carbs) and maybe tap them lightly on the sides with a plastic/rubber mallet, sometimes its just a bit sticking, which will help in a bandaid way but when you get some time the carbs need a good cleaning. There are people on here that are more experienced with these than i am but this is what i have found to be true so far anyway. Hope that helps.
oh and do a valve adjustment when you can, this fixes a LOT of issues from what I have read and doesn't seem too difficult to do yourself.
edit: if you ever remove the tank from the carb you need to run it with the choke on to get the fuel flowing again, it starts the vacuum process.. i had to learn this the hard way myself. don't get covered in gas trying to get it out! hehe
