Have just got my "project" back together but it won't start. Have stripped the carbs and replaced float valve and pilot jet and made sure all jets are clean. Carb is filling but engine will not start, have sprayed petrol into carb and it fires immediately but then stops. I am using small petrol container so not using petcock. Have had carb apart several times to check but all seems ok. Have read many posts but still unable to sort out. Have fitted pod filters as bike did not have any air filters. Any ideas of what I could try please?

Valve adjustment??? Closed valves will not let fuel into combustion chamber.

Yes, petrol comes out of each drain hole. Have checked float level with clear tube connected to drain hole and that seems ok. Have just been out and got some new petrol (other about 3 months old) and it did fire up. If you spray fuel into carb it starts immediately so I think valve adjustment is ok. Petrol has today started leaking out of the 2 holes on the lower edge of the carb where the air filters go, as mentioned had full carb strip down and float valves replaced with new. As far as I can see that's all that stops the petrol but new valves and seats checked and look ok so what can it be. Thanks for reply.

Have adjusted float by 1mm at a time, trying each time. Have finally found when set to 20mm that the engine starts, runs and revs as it should. Have come to the conclusion that the petrol was over filling causing petrol to leak into the carbs which was causing the engine to rev high until it got so rich that it flooded. All good now, now I can move on.
