Hey guys, after reading a lot of posts on here I've decided to register!
I've recently inherited a 454 87' to mess around with.. I figured i'd make it a one seater and whatever.
Anyways, it has been standing still for about a year and is supposed to have had a major overhaul before that. When i got this beauty the battery was dead and it was still filled with fuel. So i drained all the fluids and replaced them. It started right up afterward.. but kept stalling after closing the choke even after letting it run for a couple of minutes. Even drove on it, no effect. So i decided to clean the carbs, and set the idle screw ( which was silly in retrospect) When i placed back the carbs is started up, but went up to 7 k rpm..
So i think i messed up the idle screw thing but as the spring prevents me from turning it back i assumed this was the lowest setting. However when i turned it up, the spring refused to let me dial it back again. So i have absolutely no idea what the right setting would be. If anyone has a picture of the stance of the valves in it's ideal ( or close to ) idle stance that be great!

Right! The problem is fixed. I just placed it back and kept turning untill it was at 2k then drove it till it was warm and set it back to 1250!
I think it might need a valve adjustment as there is a good 16000 miles on her. So i might look into how that works next!
