Good evening guys! So i got my first bike the other day, a 1986 454 ltd with a little less then 8k miles on it for a steal.. it was running when i got it but super lean and getting hot. so what i did was take all of the fluids out., coolant and oil.. the coolant was a little rusty so im flushing the radiator and the oil i took out was straight BLACK. i also took the carbs out and cleaned them.. not knowing what I was doing, I took the jets out and cleaned them and didnt count rotations. I put it all back together, guessing on the rotations and now it was starting but it would rev up to 7-8krpm, i took it on a little ride, maybe half a mile and it was always at 7-8k rpm until i put the brakes on, then it would drop down to 3-4k???
i backed the throttle adjustment screw all the way out so that is ruled out.. i think it has to do with how i put the jets back in.. does anyone know a good bench mark for rotations?? for the main jet, and air mixture screw..
also the little Jet i'm guessing that is directly next to the main jet doesn't come out and is very hard to turn? how many rotations should that be at? what is it?
so i hope that someone here has some knowledge on whats happening?
i went onto the website to download the service manual and it downloaded but wouldn't let me open or view it. it said there was no info.

Cables are likely dry..lube them with some light oil.

when you say oil the cables, are you talking about where they com to the throttle body for the handle? what kind of oil should I use?

Yes, the cables can be oiled with light weight sewing machine oil, like the brand "3 in 1" oil in the small can. You disconnect the cables at the handlebars, and let the oil run down the inner cables, inside the outside part. takes a little time, but extends the life of the cables.
