What is the easiest way to get the carbs back in? I did the rubber trick to take them out, but I can't get enough rubber to come back out. And how far forward should they sit?

soften all the rubbers up with a hair drier, should make the whole thing easier.

the way i do mine is put all cables on throttle etc. take the air filters out one on either side push the airbox rubbers in fully there is now room to slide carbs in, i come in from the left side (gear lever side} push carbs in to rubbers on the cylinder head fully push airbox rubbers onto carbs this can be done from inside the airbox hence taking out air filters put back airfilters, tighten up carb clips job done

There is a very easy way. Take a lid of a jar, or a metal sheet, 1-2mm thick, just about the size of the rubber boot on the filter box. drill a small hole in the middle and tie a thin but strong thread onto the sheet/lid. Now pull the thread trough the filter box (filter pods removed:-) ) Now you can -by pulling the thread- squeeze the rubber boot a little bit, just enough to give some extra space to make the installation a LOT easier. Now tie the thread onto your rear shock and you will see how easy you can get the carbs in place. After installation of the carbs, you can easily slide the plate/sheet from between the carb an boot to the filter box.
