I bought this digital tachio/speedometer a while back on ebay. Figured i'd try it out at some point and then completely forgot about it. Now that the rain season is starting and the frame needed a touch up i figured i'd do everything i have planned for her and so i started with the procces of turning her digital. After studying both wiring diagrams of the speedometer and the 454LTD i've started cutting and reconecting wires on the speedometers side. As it has a 9 pin conector and i'd like to not have to cut into the wiring of the bike if i can't get this to work. Anyways, i've clearly done something wrong with the wiring as its hardly doing anything.. It powers up and shows its in neutral. But that is pretty much it. I'll have to wire the tach to the ignition coil later but i figured i'd make sure the rest works first. Can someone tell me what wire is what in the 9 pin and 4 pin connector, and if there is something i'm missing? Ps this is the speedometer: www.ebay.com/itm/12000-RMP-kmh-Universal-LCD-Digital-Odometer-Speedometer-Tachometer-Gauge-LED-/142262280592

Nevermind, pulled an all nighter and its showing..
I fixed most of it, i can probably figure it out. The only help i'll need is with getting the tach to work.

Alright, after a slight struggle i figured it out. After having figured out what i did wrong in the initial wiring procedure, i continued to try and get the tachometer to work. I first attempted to wire it to the ignition coils as per suggestion of the 'manual' and the rest of the internet. This, however, did absolutely nothing. So I continued my search and after further inspection of the wiring diagram one of the members here so kindly posted online, I noticed the pickup coil. I connected the pulse wire to the blue wire of the pickup coil and voilá, it works like a charm. Due to the old gauges still being connected, be it without power I can compare the readings and so far, they seem pretty accurate! This, of course, is currently only tested in my garage and we'll have to see if this remains to be the case in the real world. Getting to the pickup coil connector was a bit of a struggle as I still have the airbox on my bike and the connector is right under there. After you remove them, it's easy to find there are two connectors but the pickup coil is the one with the four wires. I hope this helps anyone who's attempting to get a digital tacho/speedometer on their bike.

Normal, warm engine RPM at idle is 1150 RPM, looks like that one is reading right. Congrats on the apparently, successful swap to electronics.
