Hey I recently bought an 87 and thought the prime position was off (it was so warn I couldn't read it) then later found out it wasn't. I just started the bike today after letting it sit on prime for a week or 2. Now i started reading that gas could have gotten into the crank case and can cause a lot of damage. I also noticed after taking it for a spin around the block that when I would get on the gas it would lag for a second then start to go. I know I need to change the oil now but is there anything else I should do? and do you think the bike is going to be fine?
Edit: Just checked air filter it reeks of gasoline

Look at the oil sight glass on the side of the engine...does the oil look milky? If so, yes, change the oil and filter. If the carb float valves are good, the should have prevented the gas to overfill and get into the crankcase.

As Eagle said.....Also a fuel treatment(SeaFoam) may help the "Lag" you have.

I haven't started it yet because I read online I should pull the spark plugs and turn the engine over a couple times to eject any fuel that may be in the chamber. Should I do this tomorrow? I should probably pick up some new spark plugs too if there is anything that comes out of there. Edit: I suppose I should also change the float valves?

I would change the plugs.....Float valves (Needles) are probably fine as long as petcock it on "Run"...Just keep a eye on it for a few days.
