I have a "like-new"1986 Kawasaki LTD 454 Motorcycle with 3,303 original miles on it.
I have not started it in about 4 months and when I went to start it, the ignition green light and lights come on, but the starter made no effort to turn motor over and not even a sound or click, nothing. The horn would only make a little squeak faint sound.
The battery was new back in September 2016, today is January 26, 2018.
My questions are - does the kickstand have to be up or down in order for this bike to start? I don't remember.
I charged the battery with a trickle charge and I still get nothing as far as getting the starter to turn over the the motor.
The bike is in neutral.
Anyway ideas?
What battery do you guys recommend and from where?
First post on here and thanks.

Does not need to be up to start in "N" but if switches are working properly will stall if you try to put in 1st gear with the stand down....Remember to pull clutch leaver to start.

Thanks for the reply back Blaine and sorry for the late reply. I got busy, but to educate the group, I was using a trickle charge and the light would turn green on it, which told me it was charged so I thought, but the motor would never turnover. When I would hit the start switch, the light would go back to a blinking yellow on the charger. So I pulled the battery out (a pregnant dog to get out and put back in place on the neutral side) and notice 2 of the cells were dry, and I wondered, how in a year and a half or so, it would be dry, anyway, fast forward, I purchased a new battery from Walmart, of all places for $40.00 , and ES 12A A. ES stands for the brand Everstart, Walmart's brand. Nonetheless, I poured the acid in and gave a charge and the bike fired right up. I had a dead battery with no cranking amps at all. I mentioned the the kickstand because I noticed it had a switch and wondered why. This bike is like new and if anyone is interested in buying it let me know.
