I suspect that my generator is from an en500. I've already had to replace the stator cover because the one that was on there had no place for the shifter. Now I am realizing that one of the wires coming out there is not matching anything else on my bike. The pickup coil wires that come out are 2 wires and have a two pin black connector at the end. My question is, do you think I can just replace the pickup coils or should I replace everything?

What is the number on the engine? Does it start with EN or EX?

Then it is a 454...that apparently, the previous owner slapped a number of wrong parts or updated parts on.....at least the side cover, and who knows what else. Was there two pickup coils on the stator side cover that was on the engine? The 454 has two pick up coils (dual firing points) the 500 just has one (single pickup). This should be covered in the manual...you do have one, don't you? Very important that you have one.

I know I'm going to have to get the right pickups because mine is from an en500 but I'm trying to figure out if I need to change the stator also. How could I tell if it's 450 or 500? and yes I have a manual.

For anyone who wants to know. The bike had the en500 pickup (1). Installed the en450 pickups (2) and I was able to get a spark at both plugs. If I'm not mistaken the flywheel is the only thing that makes a difference between the two bikes. The stator doesn't change.

The firing points are on the flywheel. If you in fact, have a 500 flywheel, the firing will be wrong...like well out of time. You will either need a 454 flywheel, or modify the 500 flywheel....there is a post here in the forum, showing how to do that, but is has to be exact, or it won't work.
