Just wanted to say hello. I've been a member since 2004. Bike tore up in 2011, money was tight so there it sat in the corner of the garage. I decided to get er running then make the descision to keep it or sell it. I remembered how helpful this forum was to me a few years back...so here I am.
So I've pulled the stator cover off, removed the flywheel and found that the bolts that hold the starter clutch to the flywheel were loose and had backed out a bit. What a mess. The engine case behind the flywheel is scared up rather deep and the sprocket is all tore up along with the clutch. Metal shavings all over too.I have ordered a new clutch, sprocket, gasket, etc. No thread lock was used on the bolts, possably from the factory, not sure. So my question is should I drop the oil pan and clean out the metal shavings that might have drained thru or will the shavings just lay there and be ok?

Surely it wouldn't hurt to drop the pan, just to be safe.

So..what's all involved to pull the pan? What must I get, just a pan gasket or are there other gaskets I'll need. Sorry for sounding dumb, but I don't have a repair manual to look at.
