I have steam coming out of this hose. I'm not sure if this is normal or not. As far as I know this is a vent but it seems like it's putting out a lot of steam. Keep in mind this is an ex500 motor.

Yes it is a vent....have you been running it "open" with no filter, and possibly in the rain, allowing moisture to get into the crankcase/transmission? If you look at pics in the Photo Gallery, you will see that a filter needs to be used, if the airbox has been removed Are you getting good oil pressure and oil flow? And, I had one to start "smoking" like you seem to have described, and found that the oil pickup was mostly clogged, causing oil starvation to the transmission, causing the transmission to get hot.

Igot it like this from the previous owner. I know it had water in therebecause the oil was very milky. I've already changed the oil twice. Do you think it is safe to run it until all the water gets forced out? Also I'm not sure how to tell if the oil pressure is good or not.

If the oil looks good & clean put a filter on the vent & you should be fine.....If you see any milkyness in the oil change it again,
