I did a valve adjustment on my bike yesterday with the step by step link from the site. I got everything set up and adjusted. Started her up and she ran nice. Came home today to start her up and she kinda lagged at about 3000 and then all of a sudden made a nasty noise and now she won't start. Sounds like gears spinning maybe?? Going to try and add clip here. Please help hahah.

Does sound like a chain or something broke....does not sound like the engine is actually turning over, just the starter spinning. pull a spark plug, hold hand or finger over the hole to see if any compression. You may have to pull the valve cover back off to inspect things, also the stator cover to check the starter chain and starter clutch.

Agreed, pull the plugs out and turn the crankshaft by hand in N to make sure that nothing bad happened during the nasty noise incident. Also remove the stator cover and see what's happening there, likewise with the cylinder head to check everything is OK. You still have the emissions kit fitted which is nothing to do with your current problem but makes accessing the head area a total PITA, try a google for ex500 PAIR removal for info on how to get rid of it.

Sorry new to this bike. What is the emissions kit fitted? What should I be looking for I'm the cylinder head?

Cylinder head - hopefully nothing to find there but because it was the last part of the bike you worked on and also because there was a nasty noise I'd revisit just to double check everything, clearances, nuts still tight, tacho gear not dropped into the engine. However if she turns by hand ok we could assume the head area is still ok. Get the stator cover off and see if there's any damage. Very possibly a broken starter chain and you need to check the starter clutch isn't cracked or split (happened to me) and has not caused any damage to the flywheel magnets. You will need a copy of the workshop manual for any of this, I can't remember if you have to pull the flywheel to replace the starter chain but its a left hand thread and needs a flywheel puller tool and you *really* don't want to break anything in that part of the bike. I slightly cross-threaded the crankshaft trying to improvise a puller and couldn't sleep for a week until my tap kit arrived! Emissions - I'd leave this until you fix the current problems but here's a demo removal its done in a few hours with the kit.

I'm going to go back thru if possible this weekend. I'm gonna get the emissions thing and the pully part soon. I've read a lot about guys trying to pull it without. Now the starter cover is on the left side of the bike, where you can remove those two plastic pieces and move it to TDC right? Thank you again
