I am in the process of refurbing my recently acquired 454ltd 1986 UK model.
My question is, I would like to replace Starter Motor, while bike is stripped down.
Everything on eBay for sale is across the pond and postage is heavy, to say the least.
Is there any other Starter that will fit? I have been told that the ER5 starter will fit, that would be handy, because there are loads of them for sale over here.
Has anyone tried an alternative Starter.
Thanks.

yeah it will and also the starter of the EN500 GPZ500s either generation will be fine. but why replace. comprehensive kits are available for not much money then you have basically a new starter. the thing with used ones is how used they are. how long will they last. put it another way say they last 30k and the one you buy has done 29k.

The official parts list says only EN500 90-96 used the same starter but you might still be correct about later ER5 starters. Have you got a starter fault? Its a fairly simple assembly and easy to refurb with repair kits available.

Thanks Bikeman & Knoisy for your input.
Would not know where to start with a repair kit, would leave that to someone else, I'm ok with a hammer.
Have been thinking about it since I posted, there is a place near me that reconditions them, so will take mine off and take it to them.
The reason I would like it done is, Bike seems to turn over to slowly when cranking, with a fully charged (New) battery, so while it's easy to get at, why not?
Thanks for the help.
Mike.
