I have a 1987 Kawasaki 454ltd with 9k and recently it’s been running very hot. I’ve changed the coolant and thermostat and air filters. It’ idles perfect and runs great I don’t understand why it’s running so hot just below the red line. Please help. I’m wondering if it’s running too lean? And if so how do i adjust it

As above, also water temp sensors and fan switches to consider, testing with a meter detailed in the Kawasaki service manual. If you go through each variable you'll find the cause, but careful with the hot temps as you never know how close you are to a cylinder head crack and other nightmares! Spark plug inspection might indicate if your running wildly lean or rich but I think I'd try to monitor the fan operation first, should be able to spot it running (or not).

I checked my fan and it’s working great, I recently just bought a new radiator cap from auto part store meant for a Toyota. But read on another thread that it’ll fit the Kawasaki 454 and it’s been running pretty steady at about three quarters now. Does anyone know what poundage the radiator cap is suppose to be rated for??? The one i got is only 6lbs I feel like I should go higher to get more pressure but I’m almost positive the cap was the culprit.

Underneath the carbs, near the carb bowls....if no one has removed them, they are a "sealed" adjustment, and a soft metal "plug or cover" must be removed to get to the adjustment screw.
