Hi Guys, I seem to have an electrical problem where my coils may be on their way out, which is causing miss fires and intermittent firing on one cylinder.
I have new plugs, stripped and cleaned the carb and jets, holes etc..., and I have done pretty much everything to check all my other issues. I have swapped over the coils from the right side to left and still its the same. I have used starter liquid and it makes no difference a quick spray does not make it pick up, as you would expect if it was a fuel problem.
I have not ordered new ignition coils, however the coils that arrived were not the ones for the bike, they said they were for and EN 500/454tld but they turn out to be 5/8 " too short.
In short where do you guys get your coils from, and would you use OEM versions or can you use different coils altogether? I cannot go any further without the right equipment or something which does the job.
What do you guys recommend?

Well it could be the the CDI ECU thats causing the problem, Does anybody know if they fail and if they do what does wrong?

use this website for information on new parts and cross reference. they sell new parts, give you the part number and if any other bikes that the part fits. i have used them loads of times, give it a try www.csmnl.com

no.
It will idle in the left cylinder without an issue, but right side will not start or run. it will back fire and pop through tailpipe.
I have swapped over the coils and it really hasn't made any difference. This is why I now thing its the CDI. Because it is not a British made bike, and parts for it are like trying to get bits of a dead ant from 50 years ago it is hard. Put it this way, parts labelled as 454 ltd oem parts have turned out to be parts for other bikes just because the bike (s) are Kawasaki.
I got 2 coils but they were listed as 454, but were actually too small and for a 500.
I am trying to get new because I can then trust they will work, but discontinued parts you cannot get.

The smaller coils would make no difference & still work....Under "Mods there is a section were people converted over to "COP coils on plugs......At this point Im thinking CDI....Also make sure they are wired correctly.
