Ok I have two 454's one running one not. My non running bike is getting spark to only one side. I've ohmed out both coils and they check out. I've switched the wires from the working side to the bad side to see if it would work. Nothing. I changed out coils to one off my running bike and still nothing. I've even changed out the cdi from my good bike and nothing. The cdi off the bad bike runs good when moved over to the other bike so I know thats not it. I don't know what else to check. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can't think of much left in the equation here - have you swapped wires in the sense of testing the HT leads (always worth a trim back) and also that the coil to CDI loom is healthy? Beyond that something is failing in practice but testing OK on the meter. I suppose you've tried new plugs and are testing by looking for a spark while earthed to the engine?

I actually have a spare wire harness that I hooked up to see if that would change anything. Everything was the same. Also I'm using the same spark plug on both coils with one sparking and the other not. To test i do ground it on the frame. I have no idea what else to try or what this could be.

Not got the manual with me right now and never had to investigate this - does the flywheel pickup generate two pulses at source for CDI timing or is it just one?

I know there's two pick up coils. I guess it's possible that one isn't working like it should. Any idea on how to test that. I have a multimeter.

Looking more like the pickup area is not sending a signal, remove the generator cover and the connector is probably held in with RTV but you might be able to get the meter probes to do a continuity test on the wires back to the CDI. Beyond that it suggests there is a fault with the pickup or magnet so maybe consider your options for swapping the working parts out from the good bike, sorry don't know exactly how much work that involves but you get the idea.

I get the bike running. It turned out to be the pickup coil. After replacing it I was getting spark on both sides.
