Question?? I just ordered a new clutch cable. Its never been replaced and its wore. When I install the new one, how do I go about adjusting it or setting how far it threads to the handle and stuff like that. Never replaced one. Thanks!!

Sent from my Moto X Adjust so you have between 1/2" to 9/16" freeplay at the outer tip of clutch lever.

There is a proper procedure to adjust the clutch cable, in the manual. If you do not have a manual, then you need to get one (ebay), it is very valuable in giving instruction/information on your bike.

And most people don't realize the clutch cable actually gets adjusted at the transmission end of the cable, not at the lever. I knew I should have taken a video when I replaced my clutch cable a few weeks ago, to show others how to PROPERLY adjust their cables.... Shawn: The cable is properly adjusted at the transmission end of the cable. Reference my post on this thread on how to properly adjust the cable: Clutch Cable Adjustment

I knew I should have taken a video when I replaced my clutch cable a few weeks ago, to show others how to PROPERLY adjust their cables.... Shawn: The cable is properly adjusted at the transmission end of the cable. Cable can be adjusted at either end. On the engine-side the adjustment requires tools and offers more adjustment range. At the clutch lever the adjustment doesn't require tools and offers less adjustment range. I adjust the cable at the engine first, so that the adjuster at the clutch lever is about halfway threaded in. That gives me range to make adjustments on the fly w/o tools.

Thanks. Got the cable and adjusted it at the engine with the lever threaded all the way in for now. Seems to be nice and snug pulling the lever in with a little bit of free play like it should be. That was a lot easier than I thought it would be. Shifting great now. Thanks for all the info. Next is tach cable, speedo cable, master cylinder with new brake line, and throttle cable. When I looked at throttle cables online, it listed a push cable and a pull cable. What's the difference?

Also, my clutch cable I just installed was a motion pro. Do I need to put any kind of lube or grease on it?

Thanks Blaine. Any particular one I should buy or would wd40 work? Do I just put it in at the top near the lever and let it run all the way down the cable?

Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S3 using the ProBoards Mobile App You don't need both cables... you only need the pull cable to operate the throttle. Granted there is no real reason to remove the push cable, it is there for safety reasons and many older and off-road bikes do not have them. The push cable is simply a safety backup in case the throttle sticks and the throttle spring cant close the butterfly. You can twist the throttle closed with push cable, however 99.9% of the time the throttle spring takes care of that.
